Project news: Renovation of Turku Cathedral

Together with Arkkitehtitoimisto Hanna Lyytinen Oy, we have been selected as the principal architect and architectural, furniture and interior designer for renovation of Turku Cathedral.

The project began in February 2025 and is scheduled for completion in 2028. In the renovation project, the building utilities of the iconic cathedral will be almost entirely updated, and the cathedral spaces will be improved, making them multi-purpose, accessible and safe. In the restoration work, the design philosophies of the architectural firms and their deep knowledge of the site ensure that modernisation of the national shrine to meet today’s needs will be realised.

Both firms have prior experience with renovation work on the Turku Cathedral. Hanna Lyytinen has been working on the cathedral renovation project design for the past two years, so it is only natural for her to continue as head designer for the remainder of the project. We worked on an earlier renovation of the cathedral in 1976-1979, after which several smaller scale renovations have been carried out.
