A Busy Start for the Renovated Lappeenranta Library

The exhibition space on the entrance floor of the renovated Parvi has proved extremely popular. The space is fully booked until 31 May 2027, and new bookings will be accepted from November 2026 onwards. The library’s numerous meeting rooms have also been in frequent use and popular with visitors. Students have requested more desk spaces for studying, and additional desks have already been ordered.

“We have received positive feedback, for example, on the functionality and peaceful location of the sewing room. Visitors have also appreciated the café area and the children’s section. Most of the feedback, however, seems to concern the the welcoming atmosphere and brightness of the spaces,” says Library Director Marja Huuhtanen. The number of library visitors has increased significantly, to approximately 1,300–1,500 per day. “People also spend more time in an pleasant library environment—hanging out, studying and taking part in activities.”

The renovation improved the energy efficiency of the building, designed by architect Erkki Pasanen (1974), modernised its building services, and enhanced the functionality and accessibility of its spaces. Parvi received the City of Lappeenranta Council on Disability’s honorary award for accessibility (year 2025).
