First phase of the Quarter Project has been launched

The first phase of the Government quarter renovation and modernisation project (Quarter Project) has been launched. We are serving as principal architect for the project.

Government work environment partner and specialist Senate Properties is the project developer and YIT the general contractor.

The government quarter in the Kruununhaka district of Helsinki, which is significant in terms of architectural history, includes the buildings at Kirkkokatu 12 and 14, Pihapaviljonki, Snellmaninkatu 7 and Hallituskatu 3. The quarter consists of several buildings from different periods. The oldest of these was built in the 1840s and the newest in the 1980s. The quarter encompasses approximately 15,000 square metres and the estimated cost of the project is EUR 71 million.

The building utilities are being updated and the safety, energy efficiency and accessibility of the buildings are being improved. New multi-purpose space solutions are efficient and flexible, adapting to the ever changing needs of government.

The project aims to obtain a high quality rating (four stars) in the Rakennustieto Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). Senate Properties has set a carbon footprint target of 24% less than normal construction for the renovation project. Circular economy targets are also an integral part of the project.

Work on the quarter started at the end of 2024 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
