Siltavuorenpenger 1-3 renovation completed

The renovation work on University of Helsinki Siltavuorenpenger 1B has been completed and the building was turned back over to the client last week. 1B was the last of the three buildings we renovated for the Siltavuorenpenger renovation project. Building 3, which is named Athena, was completed at the beginning of the year.

Originally housing the Department of Nuclear Physics, building 1B was comprehensively renovated. In addition to the repair and alteration of the building interior construction and utilities, windows were replaced and the roof was slightly raised.

The new facilities will house the Faculty of Educational Sciences, with educational facilities for skill subjects and art studies, such as the visual arts, handicrafts, home economics and drama. The building’s spaces were designed in close cooperation with its future users.

Building 3 housed facilities for music and visual arts studies. Designing acoustic insulation for music instruction rooms in the old building proved to be a challenge, thus requiring comprehensive collaboration with acoustical and structural engineers.
