LPR Architects served as the principal designer and data modelling BIM coordinator in the construction of a hot-dip galvanizing factory for Aurajoki Oy. Upon its completion in Lieto, which is just outside the city of Turku, the galvanizing factory is the most environmentally-friendly facility of its kind in Europe.
Total emissions and energy consumption are minimised in the production facility by recovering energy generated in factory processes and directing it to the district heating grid.
The robust process equipment was manufactured in central Europe and their model-based integration with the building systems was challenging, but interesting.
Construction work was begun in May 2023 and completed in June 2024.
